Chatting with Amanda and Nancy in Chaing Mai, Thailand |
It would have been wonderful to run into my best friend from first grade, whom I haven't seen since, no matter where it happened in the world. But when you run into her and her mother at an Indian restaurant in Chiang Mai, Thailand it feels pretty surreal. It wasn't long into our dinner that Amanda's mom, Nancy, said to my mom, "are you Anne, Anne Pheasant?" And so began a wonderful night of catching up and wandering through Chiang Mai's night bazaar together.
We loved Chiang Mai. We enjoyed a death-defying bike ride through the streets of the old city, a fabulous lunch at a secluded restaurant that we happened upon out of nowhere, and a chance to see monks chanting at Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a temple at the top of a really windy road outside of town.

Before leaving Chiang Mai we went to the most wonderful cooking class! We first explored the market and learned about the local ingredients. Then we learned how to make Pad Thai, green curry, chicken and cashew stir fry, and fried bananas with ice cream. We were able to eat everything we made, and all before 1 pm. Boy have we been well-fed here in Thailand!
