Saved by a B&B

After our fun day at Waitomo Caves, we arrived to Lake Taupo at about 4:30 p.m. with no accommodations booked.  We knew there would be a lot of hotels/motels in town, so we weren't worried.    Little did we know that this was like arriving in Panama City or Destin on the Friday of 4th of July weekend without a place to stay.  After an hour of driving around and finding no vacancy, we confirmed with the information center that there was not a single room available in town!  At that point we remembered that Colin, the owner of the B&B where we had stayed the night before, had given us the number of a B&B in Taupo just in case we couldn't find anywhere to stay.  We called Colleen and Bob, and they were happy to have us.  They welcomed us with cheese, crackers and vodka tonics -- quite a treat!  Then the next morning Bob cooked us a delicious NZ breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, potato cakes, and roasted tomatoes.  Another small crisis turned out OK!  Lesson learned though - we are now trying to book our accommodations a few days in advance!
